Business Plan Update thru 8/31/10

In the July 2010 issue of Nevada Issues, a publication of the Nevada Taxpayers Association, recommendations for spending reforms for Nevada's local governments were presented. In this Business Review we will present several of these recommendations and demonstrate how the performance scorecard effectively implements them.
The Finance Scorecard has been updated for FY 2010/2011. Monthly budgets for the General Fund, Building Fund, Quality of Life Fund, Regional Transportation Fund, Street Maintenance Fund, Ambulance Fund, Water Fund, Sewer Fund and Storm Water Drainage Fund have been developed and will serve as targets for actual revenues and expenditures in each of those funds. Each month, you will be able to quickly examine actuals against targets in order to determine whether financial course corrections are needed.
Part of last month's Business Review included a report on Ambulance Response Times, which highlighted a spike during the month of July. Upon further investigation, a coding problem was detected which caused a data error. This has been corrected, and revised July data for ambulance response times are included in this report.
Taxable sales graphs are included in this report and provide an indication whether the various categories of taxable sales are meeting our targets which have been established as the amount of sales generated during the same month one year ago.
The current status of transportation projects are also included in this report.
