Christmas Tree Recycling
Carson City is pleased to once again offer Christmas Tree Recycling in cooperation with Capital Sanitation/Waste Management Inc. As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular collection day or taken to one of the drop-off locations. Trees will be chipped in the springtime and given to local residents to use for mulch in their yards. No flocked trees! This program continues to be a huge success. Carson City would like to thank everyone for their participation. Last year we were able to redirect 28.48 tons of wood waste from our Landfill.
The dates for tree collection are:
Curbside collection will be from January 2nd through January 6th on your regular trash day. If trees are longer than six feet, please cut them up into sections no longer than six feet.
Drop boxes will be at the following locations from January 2nd through January 6th only:
- JC Penney Parking Lot
- North Town Plaza/Near Bully's
- Carson City Landfill
- Capital Sanitation, 5560 Sheep Drive
- Carson City Corporate Yard on Butti Way between Fifth Street and Airport Road
After January 6th please take your Christmas Tree to the Carson City Landfill for recycling.
Trees left curbside after January 6th will be disposed of as garbage and will need to be cut into three foot sections so they will fit into the Waste Management trucks.
Remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and bases from the trees before recycling. Flocked trees can't be recycled. Call the Carson City Environmental Control Authority at 887-2355 ext. 7390, 7380 or 7376 for further information.
