John Barrette, a retired journalist, is a researcher, writer, investor and government official. As a newsman, he most recently was a reporter and columnist with the Nevada Appeal. He formerly was with United Press International and The Associated Press, as well as newspapers and broadcast news operations both in Nevada and nationwide. His wire service and newspaper experience included work as a bureau manager and business editor.
He also has served in and around state government, including as a member of the Nebraska Parole Board and as president of the Nebraska Tax Research Council. In Nevada, before joining the Nevada Appeal he served as a financial advisor in Carson City after securing a Series 7 securities license, as well as in broadcasting and as a columnist for Reno news outlets.
He is a 1970 graduate of Bradley University with coursework emphasis in journalism and political science.
John is married to Jean Barrette, who is with the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development. They wed at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Carson City. They are members there and at St. John’s of the Wilderness Episcopal Church near Glenbrook.
