Danielle Leading Hike

Winter Wonderland Walk

Bundle up and join us for an easy walk to view the winter wonderland along the Carson River. On this two-mile walk we will learn about hibernation, migration, climate, and how snowflakes form! The Winter Wonderland Walk is suitable for all ages with an easy grade, please meet us at Carson River Park at 1:00pm.

The Trail-Graze Hike

Ewe are invited on a guided hike to view the grazing sheep in Carson City! Join us to hear from experts about how Carson City is utilizing sheep to reduce wildfire risks, invasive weed identification, and local environmental history. The location will be dependent on where the sheep will be grazing during the month of April—watch our Facebook Page for the location announcement!

Junior Ranger Program

Junior Rangers help to protect and preserve our natural resources. Carson City Junior Rangers will have opportunities to explore our unique parks and open spaces while learning about history and nature. The program is divided into two age groups: 5-9 years old and 10 years old and over. Every Junior Ranger will complete a Leave No Trace Hike and Wildlife Walk. Junior Rangers in the 10 and over program will attend two additional events, Nature Navigation and Environmental Career Day. Junior Rangers will complete an educational booklet from attending the events in order to earn their Junior Ranger Badge!

To get started, visit the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department and purchase your Junior Ranger Booklet. The first event will be the Leave No Trace Hike at Kings Canyon on May 19th. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring your Junior Ranger Booklet!
