WELCOME TO JURY SERVICE
There is no service more valuable in support of our democratic government than good faith performance of jury duty by a citizen. Serving as a juror is both a privilege and a responsibility. We extend our sincere appreciation for your jury service.
If you have received a jury summons from our Court you may complete your juror questionnaire by clicking on the eResponse link to the right. You will need the Juror ID number located on your Jury Summons, your zip code, and home telephone number.
Requests for excusal, deferral, or disqualification may be made after completing your questionnaire. Once you have confirmed your service, you can check the status of your reporting date and time by logging onto eResponse and clicking on the “Profile” tab.
Court cases often settle between the time the summonses are mailed and jurors are scheduled to report. It is your responsibility to confirm whether your jury service will be required. You may check your status any time on-line by logging onto eResponse and clicking on the “Profile” tab or you can call the automated jury line at (775) 600-4420, after 5:00 p.m. on the business day prior to your report date.

The Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) provide the following exemptions for service as a juror:
- Age (over 70) and do not wish to serve as a juror.
- Not a U.S. Citizen.
- No longer residing in Carson City.
- Any Police Officer as defined in NRS 617.135.

Requests can be made either on-line by logging into eResponse or by calling the automated jury line at (775) 600-4420.
- All requests for excusal, deferral, or disqualification MUST be made at least 5 working days BEFORE your report date. Generally, requests are reviewed within 2 days from the date in which they were submitted.

You may request a one-time postponement of your jury service for up to 12 weeks. When you make a request for a postponement, please be prepared to pick a date 4 weeks from your service date but not more than 12 weeks from your summons date.
CAN MY EMPLOYER FIRE OR DISCIPLINE ME FOR NOT BEING AT WORK WHILE SERVING ON A JURY?
No. Nevada law prohibits terminating or threatening to terminate employment because of jury duty or requiring an employee to use sick leave or vacation time pursuant to NRS 6.190. However, you are responsible for properly notifying your employer prior to the date you are summoned to appear.

If you are actually sworn to serve as a trial juror, you will receive $40 a day for your service.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I FAIL TO APPEAR FOR JURY SERVICE?
Any person who has not been previously excused by the Court that fails to report for jury duty may be served with an order to show cause ordering them to appear before the Court to explain why they did not appear for jury duty. A juror who fails to show adequate cause for their absence can be held in contempt of court and shall be fined not more than $500.00, pursuant to NRS 6.040.
HOW LONG WILL I BE REQUIRED TO REMAIN?
Normally, jury selection takes half of the first day. However, you should be prepared to stay the full day and make appropriate arrangements with child care and job responsibilities. If you are selected to serve as a trial juror, your service will start immediately.
HOW LONG AM I ELIGIBLE TO BE CALLED AS A TRIAL JUROR?
If you are selected and serve as a trial juror, you may be excused for the remainder of the year. You are also excused from service for the following year. If you are summoned for jury duty and not selected to serve as a trial juror, you are still eligible for service throughout the remainder of the year and you may receive another jury summons. You are also not excused from being randomly selected for service for the following year.
HOW IS MY NAME SELECTED?
Names for potential jurors are randomly selected from a universal list compiled of current Carson City voter registration and the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles records of residents living in Carson City.
