The Carson City Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and the Nevada Humane Society are teaming up to encourage adoptions and celebrate the successful career of Rex, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office K-9. On July 7, 2018, at 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Nevada Humane Society located at 549 Airport Rd in Carson City, will host a retirement party in honor of Rex and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
Rex has served at the Sheriff’s Office for six years on both patrol and narcotics taskforce. Rex is a Belgian Malinois, specially trained in narcotics detection. Rex led a very successful career; during his service Rex completed 1,062 searches which led to hundreds of arrests. Recently, Rex was diagnosed with epilepsy which is the cause for his early retirement. The retirement party will feature demonstrations from the K-9 Unit, music, food trucks, and most importantly will encourage adoptions. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office proudly supports the Nevada Humane Society and encourages all residents to visit the Nevada Humane Society facility and find companionship whether through adoption or volunteerism.
