Proposed 9-1-1 Surcharge Increase

Post Date:08/02/2017 7:31 AM

On July 6, 2017, the Board of Supervisors approved the draft master plan of the 9-1-1 surcharge committee, which was a prerequisite to start the process of increasing the 9-1-1 surcharge. The proposed increase will be from $0.25 per month to $1.00 per month for access lines (or for each telephone number assigned to a customer by a supplier of mobile telephone service) and from $2.50 per month to $10.00 per month for trunk lines. The increase will be proposed by ordinance on September 7, 2017 for first reading, and September 21, 2017 for second reading and proposed adoption. This increase is necessary to fund the implementation of SB 176, which requires body cameras to be worn by certain uniformed peace officers while on duty by July 1, 2018.

To help put the proposed changes in perspective, a copy of the staff report and supporting materials from the July 6, 2017 presentation can be viewed and downloaded here.

NRS 237.080 requires the City to provide pertinent information to all potentially affected businesses. You have 15 working days to review and respond to the proposed amendments. Please respond in writing by August 25, 2017 to City Manager's Office, 201 N. Carson St, Ste 2, Carson City, NV 89701 or All comments will be included in the presentation to the Board of Supervisors for their consideration of the required Business Impact Statement.
