2024 Ballot FAQ
The Carson City Clerk-Recorder is resending ballots to all Carson City voters following the discovery of an error on ballots originally mailed to voters.
What was the issue with the original ballots?
The error was the incorrect labeling of Congressional District 2 candidate Lynn Chapman as a Democratic (DEM) candidate. The candidate is affiliated with the Independent American Party (IAP).
What do I do if I already returned the original ballot?
- If you have already returned the original ballot, please complete and return the corrected ballot and ballot return envelope.
If I only return the original ballot, will it be counted?
- All returned original ballots will be held until the corrected ballot is returned or the voter votes in person. If a corrected ballot from a voter who returned the original ballot is not returned and the voter does not vote in person, the Clerk-Recorder’s office will count the original ballot. These ballots will be counted after the return deadline (5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9).
What should I do with the original ballot I received?
- If you have not returned the original ballot, discard the original ballot and ballot return envelope. Return the corrected ballot and ballot return envelope.
Am I voting twice if I return both ballots in two return envelopes?
- No.
Can I vote in person?
- Yes
Should I return both ballots in one return envelope?
- No. Envelopes returned with more than one ballot will be rejected.
How is your office making sure voters cannot vote twice?
- Return ballot envelopes have unique IDs assigned to the voter and in-person voters are tracked through Nevada’s Voter Registration Election Management System, ensuring that only one ballot will be counted.
All returned original ballots will be held until the corrected ballot is returned or the voter votes in person. If a corrected ballot from a voter who returned the original ballot is not returned and the voter does not vote in person, the Clerk-Recorder’s office will count the original ballot.
How many voters did this affect?
- All Carson City voters will receive new mail ballots. The error appeared on all ballots.
What is the deadline to return my ballot?
- Mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day (November 5) and received by the Clerk-Recorder by 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9 (the fourth day after Election Day).
