Construction on this project is underway and there is a lot of heavy machinery at work Monday - Friday.

The Koontz Lane Trailhead is currently closed. Alternative Prison Hill Trailheads include the Clearview Drive Trailhead, the 5th Street Trailhead (5th Street and Carson River Road) and Silver Saddle Ranch.

Please excercise caution and do not enter construction zones when recreating on the west side of Prison Hill.  Thank you!

This exciting new addition to Carson City's amazing trail system will have three components:

1. Improvements to the Koontz Lane Trailhead, including a regraded access road, parking for 20-30 vehicles, ADA parking, equestrian trailer parking, vault toilet, and covered picnic table.

2. Construction of an approximately 2.4 mile multi-use pathway that will connect the Koontz Lane Trailhead with the Clearview Drive Trailhead and the Staging Area entrance at the south end of Prison Hill. This pathway will be constructed with a compacted DG (decomposed granite) surface to make it accessible to everyone, including families with small children and persons with mobility limitations.

3. Safe street crossing of Edmonds Drive at Koontz Lane to include a crosswalk and flashing beacons. This will provide enhanced access for neighborhoods on the west side of I-580 to the Prison Hill Recreation Area, and also provide a better way for neighborhoods on the east side of I-580 to access the Freeway Multi-Use Pathway.

This project is funded through the Southern Nevada Public Lands Managemenet Act (SNPLMA), which authorizes the sale of BLM-administered federal lands in the Las Vegas Valley and the proceeds are used for federal, state and local projects that benefit communities and public lands.
