Ash Canyon Road

The gate is currently closed for the season approximately one mile west of the Ash Canyon water tanks.

CAUTION:
GO SLOW! This is a narrow, one-lane road, with tight turns, very steep grades, dangerous drop-offs, and few pull-outs. The tread is rough in places. High clearance 4x4 only. No trailers!
Don't lose control of your vehicle when descending -- use a low gear and avoid riding your breaks.
Watch for pedestrians and bicycles.
Know the Weather Forecast -- Rain or snow can cause dangerous conditions and wash-outs.
Description:
Ash Canyon Road provides the only motorized access into the Carson Range in the Ash Canyon area. Motorized access ends after 4.5 miles at the State Park boundary where there is a small parking area and a half-mile walk to Hobart Reservoir.
Closures:
Ash Canyon Road is maintained by the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department. It is typically open from Memorial Day through October, but lingering snowpack, early season storms, or other issues, may affect open/close dates. Visit this site for updates.
