Maintaining Carson City roadways is not just about patching potholes. The efforts are split between two divisions: Transportation Division and Street Operations Division. Through these Divisions, the City is responsible for four main transportation and maintenance categories:

PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE, PRESERVATION, AND REHABILITATION

The primary focus of Invest In Your Streets! Preserve Carson City Roads.

Preventative Maintenance – filling potholes, crack sealing, and pavement patching.
Preservation – surface treatments methods such as slurry and micro surfacing, chip sealing and crack treatment meant to seal and preserve the street.
Minor Rehabilitation – cold mill and overlay to prolong the life of fair condition roads with adequate structural base and subgrade and complete reconstruction implementing repairs to slow further street decay and make incremental improvements for ADA compliance.
Major Rehabilitation/Reconstruction –complete roadway reconstruction to replace failed roads with full depth structural section and associated ADA updates.

ADDITIONAL ROADWAY MAINTENANCE

Curb, gutter, and sidewalk repair
Installing signs and pavement markings
Maintaining street shoulder for safety
Sweeping streets
Preparing for and clearing streets after major weather events (sanding and snow removal)
Pruning trees for better visibility and safety
Clearing ditches of debris to prevent local street flooding
Removing graffiti
Installing/removing street banners and decorations
Patching roadways after damage or utility work
Weed control
