What specific questions will I be asked when calling in a fire?
Location of the fire?
Structure address when known. If address is unknown provide cross streets.  Provide nearest landmark (example: behind Raley’s) or your address in relation to the fire.

What exactly is burning?
Structure, brush, vehicle, or other type of fire?

What questions will I be asked if I am reporting a structure fire?
Besides being asked the location/address of the fire you will be asked:
 -- Has the structure been evacuated or is anyone trapped inside?
 -- Are other structures threatened?
 -- What exactly is on fire? Roof, chimney, etc.
BE SAFE.  NEVER put yourself in jeopardy. Keep away from the fire at all times.

What if I am calling from inside a burning structure?
--  Don’t Panic. If you are in a burning structure get out and get out safely. Test doors before opening them.  If they are warm, use an alternate escape route. Crawl on your hands and knees, stay low and under the smoke. If your clothing catches on fire: stop, drop and roll.
--  Get Out and Stay Out! Do not try to save valuables, get extra clothing, or report the fire from the same building. The greatest risk (and cause of loss of life) is when people re-enter a burning structure, often to attempt a rescue of someone else or a pet, or to obtain valuables. Fire is a fast-moving and deceptive phenomenon, and if you are caught inside, you will most likely perish, along with anyone else.
--  Call 9-1-1 once you are safely away from the building and out of danger.

What if I am trapped inside a burning structure?
--  Don’t Panic. You have a small amount of time to think and take steps to give yourself enough time to survive until rescue arrives.
--  Close all doors between you and the fire.
--  If there is a phone in your room, or if you have your cell phone with you, dial 9-1-1. Provide the 9-1-1 dispatcher with your address, tell the dispatcher you are trapped inside a fire, and where in the structure you are located. Don’t hang up the phone, stay on the line until rescue arrives.
--  Seal the bottom of the door between you and the fire with sheets, rags, rugs, or anything to prevent smoke from coming in. If there is a window, remain near the window, and when you see the fire department, scream or do whatever is necessary to attract their attention; they'll be looking for you. If it is safe to do so, exit the window and get a safe distance away from the burning structure.

What questions will I be asked if I am reporting a brush fire?
Besides being asked the location/address of the fire you will be asked:
-- Are any structures threatened?
-- Are you seeing smoke or flames?
-- What is the color of the smoke?
-- How big is the fire?

What questions will I be asked if I am reporting a vehicle fire?
Besides being asked the location/address of the fire you will be asked:
-- Are structures or brush threatened?
-- Type of vehicle on fire?
-- If commercial vehicle, what is it carrying?
-- Are there placards?
