The School Resource Officer (SRO) program is a joint effort between the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, the City of Carson City and the Carson City School District to staff full-time Deputy Sheriff’s in Carson City schools. The SRO is under the direct supervision of the Sheriff’s Office. The unit is staffed by one sergeant and 4 deputies, and 1 K-9 handler assigned to schools throughout the city.
The SRO unit exists to provide a safe and secure environment for learning at CCSD campuses. To reduce crime and violent incidents in schools, deputies establish rapport with students, parents, and staff. They also patrol the schools and teach educational programs.
