Open Burning
THE FALL 2024 OPEN BURN PERIOD IS
NOVEMBER 8, 2024 to JANUARY 1, 2025
The purpose of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulated weeds and yard debris. In order to make this a safe endeavor for those involved, the Carson City Fire Department will require a burn permit.
You must have a permit on your person when conducting open burn. To obtain an Open Burn Permit, please open and print the FALL 2024 PERMIT - AUTHORIZATION TO CONDUCT OPEN BURN.
Once you have printed the permit, you will still need to call 775-283-4776 each morning you plan to burn to verify it is a good burn day. Dependent upon weather conditions, a recording will be updated each morning to advise if burning will or will not be allowed for that day.
Permits will NOT be available on a walk-in basis.
For additional questions or concerns, please call the Carson City Fire Department at 775-887-2210, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., M-F.
This permit applies to all non-agricultural residents within the boundaries of Carson City.
Persons participating in open burning activities do so at their own risk. The property owner may be held responsible for the costs of suppressing escaped or negligently uncontrolled fires. CCMC Title 14.02.010 provides that violations of this permit are a misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail and/or a maximum fine of $1,000.
