CAMPO ANNOUNCES PAVEMENT CONDITION ASSESSMENT PROJECT IN CARSON CITY AND DOUGLAS COUNTY

Carson City, NV — If you are interested in the process of how CAMPO updates the PCI or how the pavement survey will be conducted, CAMPO will be doing a static showing of the van to any interested citizens on Nov. 1 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Carson City Public Works parking lot at 3505 Butti Way.

The Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) has contracted Applied Pavement Technology, Inc. (APTech), a civil engineering company that primarily focuses on the design, evaluation, maintenance, and management of pavements, to perform a pavement condition assessment and inspection project in Carson City and Douglas County during the Fall of 2024. Using advanced pavement testing tools, APTech will assess local pavement conditions into the Pavement Condition Index (PCI).

This data will be used to identify the streets most in need of repairs and develop a multi-year paving and rehabilitation plan. The most current PCI map of Carson City is located on Carson City’s website: https://www.carson.org/government/departments-g-z/public-works/transportation/documents
“Pavement is one of the most valuable assets an agency maintains, and APTech is proud to help CAMPO proactively protect it,” said Luis Sibaja, Pavement Engineer with APTech. Citizens can expect to see the APTech van equipped with specialized technology traveling city and county streets from Oct. 29 to Nov. 8. The van is collecting information about street conditions. The APTech van will follow all posted speed limits and traffic signs and display a warning beacon so drivers and pedestrians will not encounter any driving impacts.

The data collection project schedule is subject to change due to the timing of other utility projects, weather, special events, and any unforeseen circumstances. For more information about the data collection, please contact Kelly Norman, CAMPO Project Manager, at 775-283-7525, or Luis Sibaja from APTech at 775-762-4734.

    Nevada Sustainable Transportation Funding Study

During the 2021 session, the Nevada Legislature enacted Assembly Bill (AB) 413, which drew on the previous year’s work conducted pursuant to Senate Concurrent Resolution 3. Passed unanimously by both the Nevada Assembly and Senate, AB 413 established an Advisory Working Group (AWG) and charged the AWG with investigating the transportation funding needs of the state and providing recommendations for future sustainable funding options in light of the state’s interest in transitioning to ZEVs.

The AWG focused its efforts on identifying appropriate mechanisms for generating transportation revenue and did not make a recommendation or proposal to raise revenue in any specific quantity or at any specific tax or fee rate. Instead, the AWG made a series of recommendations that collectively offer to the Nevada Legislature a blueprint for how to deploy several funding mechanisms in the near term and long term capable of providing sustainable funding that aligns with the guiding principles adopted by the group.
